The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The speculation about the recent awards show has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it kicked off the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, player agency, and flexible progression—traits that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible if you're playing as a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
