Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they added.
City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior political figure stated the attack made him stunned and had to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
